This weekend saw thousands of Accelerated Payment Advance Notices landing on the doorsteps of Edge Consulting Limited EBT scheme users. Accelerated Payment Notices (APNs) will be issued in a matter of weeks for payment within 90 days.
If you have used an Edge Consulting (Isle of Man) Ltd Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme, you may soon receive an Accelerated Payment Advance Notice/APN Warning Letter (HMRC Factsheet CC/FS24). This Isle of Man offshore tax avoidance scheme was offered via Umbrella Company, Norla Consulting Ltd.
These notices are being issued without a Follower Notice because Edge Consulting Ltd Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme was registered under HMRC's Disclosure of Tax Avoidance Schemes (DOTAS) regulations.
What should you do if you receive an Accelerated Payment Advance Notice or an Accelerated Payment Notice (APN)?
It is important to check with a Tax Specialist that the amounts of tax being demanded are legally due and based on the correct figures for loans that you received. In many cases, the information held by HMRC will be incorrect. If full payment is not made within 90 days, debt recovery proceedings will commence.
However, HMRC do say that if you can agree a Time to Pay (TTP) Arrangement within the 90 days, you will not be charged the late payment penalties which will total 15% after 11 months of the payment date and remember that interest will continue to accrue until full payment has been made.
